Recommended that participants have participated in a previous Synchronized Swimming workshop or have some familiarity with the sport to attend this one.  This 1-hour workshop builds on the elemental skills needed for synchronized swimming, with a deeper focus on underwater stunts to include in the routine at the end of class.  Deep water exercises to build core strength will also be briefly introduced.

FAQs

Will I need to be upside down in the water?  You do need to be comfortable floating on your back with your ears in the water, but all skills and stunts will be with the head on the surface (December 27th).  Stunts that require underwater inversion will be practiced on December 29th.

Do I need special equipment?  Swim goggles and nose clips are not required for the December 27th class, but are strongly recommended for the December 29th class.  A limited number of goggles are available for use, and nose clips will be provided.

I have some physical limitations.  Can I still participate?  Participants should have enough stamina to swim two moderate speed laps of the pool without stopping.  People with limited motion in knees or hips will not be able to do the eggbeater kick but should be able to participate in all other aspects of the class.

Is this a fitness class?  This class is designed to introduce participants to a fun, new way of moving in the water.  While it is not a fitness class per se, all muscle groups will be used, including the abdominals, especially in the December 29th class.

Can I wear a flotation device?  Using a pool noodle will be impossible for these classes, and a flotation belt is possible but not recommended.

Who is the instructor for this?  Becky Berk, now in her sixties, swam on a competitive synchro team in both high school and college.  She continues to love and practice the sport, and she loves to introduce it to others.  She does most of her instruction in the water with participants.
